Biden Says He's Here To Stay

In a letter sent to congressional Democrats on Monday, President Joe Biden made it clear that he has no intention of exiting this year's election. The letter comes after speculation in the press and among some Democrats about whether Biden should step aside as the party's presumptive nominee.

"Despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump," Biden wrote.

The letter also addressed concerns about Biden's ability to serve another term, noting that "these concerns come from a place of real respect for my lifetime of public service and my record as President."

Biden emphasized that the decision on the Democratic nominee should be left to the voters and not to speculation or external pressures. "The voters of the Democratic Party have voted. They have chosen me as the nominee of the party," he wrote.

The letter comes as lawmakers return to Washington after the July 4th recess. Biden's performance in a recent debate with Trump had raised concerns among some Democrats about his ability to run, win, and govern. However, Biden has insisted that he is up to the job, citing his record as president and his commitment to beating Trump.

"I wouldn't be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024," Biden wrote.

The letter also addressed concerns about the state of the Democratic Party, saying that "it's time for it to end" talk of ditching him as the nominee. "Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us," he wrote.

Biden's letter is part of his ramped-up outreach to Democrats as the party prepares for the upcoming election. He has been working to assuage concerns about his ability to serve another term with a number of appearances in recent days, including an interview with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos and rallies in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
