Apple Warns iPhone Users To Stop Using Rice On Wet Devices

Apple warns against using this old trick to dry your wet phone. No matter how your phone gets soaked – whether you're caught in a downpour, drop it in the bath, or fall in a pool – putting it in a bag of rice is not recommended. Not only could small particles of rice damage your iPhone, but testing has shown that uncooked rice is not particularly effective at drying the device.

Instead, Apple now advises that if you get a "liquid detected" alert, to follow these steps:
  • Unplug the charging cable
  • Gently tap the phone to remove excess liquid
  • Let it dry for at least 30 minutes.
  • Then, attempt to charge it again.
Avoid using external heat sources or compressed air, and never insert foreign objects into the connector. Apple also warns against risky methods like attacking your phone with a hair dryer or submerging it in alcohol.

If your phone isn't working at all, turn it off immediately and avoid pressing any buttons. Dry it with a towel and store it in an airtight container with silica packets if available. Don't attempt to charge it until completely dry.

Remember, even though many phones today are water-resistant, liquid disasters can still happen unexpectedly, so it's important to take precautions and follow proper drying procedures.
