BMW Unveils Their New BMW Skytop Concept At Villa d’Este

The BMW Concept Skytop has made its grand debut at the prestigious Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, leaving car enthusiasts worldwide in awe. This stunning two-seater convertible is based on the 8-Series and boasts a V8 engine, paying homage to iconic models like the Z8 and 503.

The Skytop's design is a beautiful blend of the past and future, featuring clean lines and a sensible sized grille. The front end is uncluttered by needlessly fussy air vents, giving it a sleek and modern look. The car is painted in a special gradient that highlights its athletic design and open-top nature.

The Concept Skytop features turbine-style alloy wheels and a targa roof with two removable roof sections. The design is inspired by some of BMW's greatest hits, such as the 503 and Z8 roadsters. The rear three quarters have a bit of Aston Martin about them, which adds to the car's elegance. The exterior paintwork features a muted silver with a chrome shadow effect.

Inside, the Skytop offers a luxurious feel with brogue-style leather seats and a cockpit artfully embedded in crystal applications. The interior surfaces were crafted in the traditional saddlery of the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing. The reddish-brown tone of the interior leather creates a consistent color scheme that gives the whole interior a sense of luxury and spaciousness.

The Concept Skytop is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged "S68" V8 engine that makes 617 horsepower, plucked from the M division. As with all V8-powered M cars, it's paired with an eight-speed auto, but BMW hasn't specified whether it's rear or all-wheel drive.

The Skytop is equipped with the current BMW iDrive infotainment system, regular wing mirrors, a rear-view mirror, and a tow hook cap in the front bumper. The LED units, positioned on milled aluminum carriers, were custom developed for the BMW Concept Skytop, utilizing the latest technology and design for automotive headlights with the slimmest profile currently available.

The Skytop is a tribute to the 503 of the 1950s and the Z8 roadster from 1998. It is also reminiscent of the Neue Klasse sedan concept from last year, showing that BMW is looking to its past while also moving forward. Although it is a concept car, there is speculation about a limited production run of 50 units priced at 500,000 Euros. However, the future production status remains undecided.
