The 'Yes California' movement, a significant faction advocating for California's secession from the United States, has raised concerns about a potential 'national divorce' as a means to prevent a possible civil war. In an interview with Newsweek, the movement's leadership emphasized the urgency of this drastic action, laying the groundwork for a ballot measure known as CalExit 3.1. This ambitious proposal aims to establish a new nation called Pacifica, comprising the San Francisco Bay area and the central California coast. Since its inception, the campaign has garnered considerable interest, with approximately 92,000 registrations on its website, reflecting a growing disillusionment with the current political landscape.

'Yes California' was founded in 2015 by Louis Marinelli and Marcus Ruiz Evans, with Marinelli serving as the group's president and a vocal advocate of its objectives. While California's secession movement attracts attention, it's important to note that similar endeavors are underway in other states. New Hampshire has introduced legislation linking potential independence to the national debt surpassing $40 trillion, while Texas faces tensions with the federal government over contentious immigration issues.

Despite advocating for the principle of self-determination, Marinelli acknowledged the current global context, marked by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, which poses challenges for states considering secession. He stressed the importance of unity in addressing these global challenges, underscoring the complexity of the issue at hand.

It's worth considering the economic dependency of California on the rest of the country. California's economy is intricately linked to the national economy, and the state relies heavily on federal funding and trade with other states. This economic interdependence raises significant hurdles for any potential secession efforts, highlighting the practical challenges and feasibility issues associated with California's independence.
