Elon Musk announced that the initial participant in Neuralink's human trial can manipulate a computer mouse using their mind, nearly a month after receiving the company's implant. However, specific information remains limited, and compared to other companies in the field of brain-computer interfaces, Neuralink seems to have encountered fewer technological obstacles thus far.

Musk, the owner of the controversial brain chip startup, shared during a conversation at an X Spaces event on Monday night, "Progress is promising, with the patient showing full recovery... and demonstrating the ability to maneuver the mouse across the screen solely through thought."

"We're striving to maximize button functionalities through mental commands," Musk elaborated, "Our current focus is on enabling left and right mouse clicks, mouse movements, and actions like click-and-drag, which require precise control." Last month, Musk announced the completion of the company's first implantation surgery on a human subject, following approval granted last year for studying the safety and efficacy of the chip implant and surgical procedures. Participants in the trial will undergo surgery to have a chip inserted into the brain region responsible for movement intention.

A robotic system will install the chip, which will then record and transmit brain signals to an application. The primary objective initially is to enable individuals to control a computer cursor or keyboard solely through their thoughts, as outlined by the company in September.

Early achievements in Neuralink's human trial could signify a significant step forward in bringing potentially life-changing technology, particularly for individuals with mobility or communication impairments, from the realm of research laboratories to practical use.
Nonetheless, Musk's disclosures have been sparse, providing no concrete evidence regarding the operation's outcomes. Consequently, the true scientific significance of the implantation remains unclear.

Musk mentioned previously that the company's debut product would be named "Telepathy," intended initially for individuals who have lost limb function.
