Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), has now obtained money transmitter licenses in 25 US states. This strategic move is part of Musk's ambitious plan to transform X into an "everything app," akin to the popular Chinese app WeChat. The acquisition of these licenses will allow X to operate in a way similar to applications like PayPal or Apple Pay, providing users with the ability to send and receive money directly through the platform.

The states that have granted X a money transmitter license include Iowa, Ohio, Utah, Florida, Kansas, Oregon, Virginia, Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, Missouri, Michigan, Wyoming, Arkansas, Maryland, Nebraska, Louisiana, and more. This development is a major step towards Musk's vision of making X a comprehensive platform that combines social media posts with a wide range of financial services.

The acquisition of these licenses marks a notable milestone in X's journey towards becoming a fully-fledged payments platform. The company is already halfway to securing the licenses needed to operate nationwide, with the recent addition of Tennessee and Nevada in 2024.

Elon Musk has expressed his intention to further expand X's capabilities by integrating cryptocurrency payments into the platform. While the licenses acquired so far do not specifically include crypto, they do lay the groundwork for broader payment services to be offered. Musk has hinted at supporting crypto payments on the platform, suggesting that the integration of cryptocurrencies could be on the horizon.

The move to obtain money transmitter licenses in 25 US states is a clear indication of Musk's determination to revolutionize the way social media platforms operate. By offering a wide range of services, including payment processing, X aims to become an all-encompassing platform that caters to the diverse needs of its users.

As X continues to expand its financial services, the acquisition of money transmitter licenses in more states is likely to follow. This will bring the platform one step closer to fulfilling Musk's vision of making X a one-stop solution for social media, communication, and financial transactions.
