Toyota Motor North America Reports U.S. September And 2023 Third Quarter Sales

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced today that its U.S. sales for September 2023 reached 203,904 vehicles, marking a notable increase of 13.9 percent in volume and 9.5 percent on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis compared to September 2022. Of these sales, electrified vehicles accounted for 64,298 units, constituting 31.5 percent of the total monthly sales. Toyota (NYSE:TM) has entrenched itself in the cultural landscape of the U.S. for over 65 years, prioritizing the advancement of sustainable, next-generation mobility through its Toyota and Lexus brands, in addition to its extensive network of nearly 1,500 dealerships.

Employing over 49,000 individuals in the U.S., Toyota has played a pivotal role in the design, engineering, and assembly of more than 33 million cars and trucks across its nine manufacturing plants. Furthermore, Toyota's upcoming 10th plant in North Carolina, scheduled to commence operations by 2025, will focus on manufacturing automotive batteries for electrified vehicles. With an extensive lineup of 26 electrified options, Toyota boasts more electrified vehicles on the road than any other automaker.

Through its Driving Possibilities initiative, the Toyota USA Foundation has pledged $110 million to develop innovative educational programs within historically underserved and diverse communities surrounding its 14 U.S. operating sites.

In the third quarter of 2023, TMNA reported U.S. sales totaling 590,296 vehicles, reflecting a volume increase of 12.2 percent and a 10.8 percent rise on a DSR basis. Electrified vehicle sales during this period amounted to 184,666 units, constituting 31.3 percent of the total year-to-date sales.
Toyota division registered September sales of 177,654 vehicles, marking a 12.9 percent increase in volume and an 8.6 percent rise on a DSR basis. For the third quarter of 2023, Toyota division reported sales of 515,400 vehicles, reflecting a volume increase of 12.4 percent and an 11 percent rise on a DSR basis.

Lexus division posted September sales of 26,250 vehicles, demonstrating a volume increase of 20.9 percent and a 16.2 percent rise on a DSR basis. For the third quarter of 2023, Lexus division reported sales of 74,896 vehicles, marking a volume increase of 10.9 percent and a 9.5 percent rise on a DSR basis.

Jack Hollis, Executive Vice President of Sales at TMNA, emphasized the introduction of several electrified vehicles, including the Toyota Grand Highlander hybrid, Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid, Toyota Prius, and the Lexus RX plug-in hybrid. With a total of 26 Toyota and Lexus electrified vehicle options available, Hollis anticipates continued strong sales momentum, particularly with the forthcoming launch of key new products such as the fourth generation Toyota Tacoma and Lexus TX and TX hybrid.
