Did the Sharks have a team meeting over the summer agreeing to not try this season?
They must have. The Sharks, 0-4-1, look like they have completely forgotten how to play hockey. It doesn't even seem like they want to be here. Five games into the season and they have scored just seven goals. In these five games, they are being outscored 19-7. Allowing 3.80 goals per game while scoring just 1.40. Yeah. What an absolute mess. We are still waiting for Mikael Granlund to make his Sharks debut which should be any game now. He is expected to be the Sharks' third-line center unless he is converted to a winger, where he would crack the top-6 group. His absence certainly hasn't helped. Captain Couture went from hoping to be healthy for the season opener, to missing five games. I would love to know how that happened, but we have been given very minimal information regarding the specifics of his injury. For someone who not only leads by example but also holds others accountable, his nonavailability on the ice and in the room has clearly shown. Not only that, the front office has made some questionable decisions regarding roster spots. The first name that comes to mind is Henry Thrun, who was recently assigned to the Barracuda. Despite a few minor defensive mistakes, Thrun recorded two assists in two games to start the season. Which is more points than other players, in four or five games, who are being relied on to contribute more than they have. The Sharks are also failing to put together the best lines possible. They are yet to pair Eklund with Hertl, which can be a scary duo without a doubt. Placing the two together would also help loosen up Eklund's game which can lead to more offensive potential. Now, there isn't one specific reason as to why the Sharks remain winless. Besides being a bad hockey team. As expected. However, these factors definitely don't help. There are still question marks regarding this roster which will hopefully become clearer in the near future. We have to win a game eventually, right? I honestly don't know. Time will tell.
